Lynx Lake is nestled in the mountains in Prescott National Forest about halfway between Prescott and
Prescott Valley a few miles south of SR # 69.
It is
just one of the many places in the Prescott area where locals and visitors can go to enjoy the great outdoors.
Lloyd and I enjoy the outdoors whether it be hiking or ATVing on back roads. One of our favorite activities is hiking the trail around lynx Lake. All four seasons are good to hike here, just choose a time of day when the temperature is comfortable.
We began our hike from the day use area on the south shore. Following the well-maintained, gravel trail along the east shore under a canopy of juniper, ponderosa pines, cottonwood trees and gamble oak. Halfway around at the dam, the gravel trail gave way to a paved, handicap-friendly walk path . We walked along the wooded trail pausing occasionally to focus on the breathtaking vista of the surrounding the Bradshaw Mountains where long ago miners took out fortunes in gold from the numerous productive mines.
We were captivated by a couple of Bald Eagles soaring from the tree tops over the crystal waters swooping and diving in pursuit of an unwary fish.
Fishermen were enjoying the lake in boats, trolling leisurely for a catch, but appeared to be content just soaking up the warm sun and the peacefulness of their surroundings.
The large, shady picnic area is a great place to hang out and feed the ducks if hiking is not on your favorites list.
